In the beginning...
In the beginning she was created ... created thus having the essence of creation. In the image. Every time I create I praise, it is my form of worship because it was the gift we were all given. Some choose to hone this gift more than others. Then there are those of us who crave it, who need it to feel like themselves. Lately I've thrown myself aside and have not been taking care of the caregiver. But what does that leave for those I care for? Not much if I am not replenishing the well.
So with that proclamation I am here now standing before the world ready to promise. This blog is a promise, something I can do to replenish the well. Yes the physical act of writing is more creative, however I am a mother now and my time is limited, typing is quicker. Also I am promising to create my art, this is really what replenishes my well.
I am excited about my new form of art-making. It utilizes 95% recycled and reclaimed materials. I call it "Green Squared" - Going Green One Square At A Time. How eco of me, yes the marketing mind of mine came up with this but really what good is recycled art if it just sits around much like the trash it was made from? I plan on getting the word out about it and keep creating it because every little bit we can do for this earth counts. I'm not living on a commune that is self-sustaining but my family and I have tried to do everything within our conventional home to help reduce, reuse and recycle for this earth. I really think my husband and I started to think about where we could make changes when our HOA took away our recycling service. When they had started it we were amazed to see how much our actual trash was reduced. We now harbor recyclables in our garage until my husband takes a trip to the recycle center. We changed light bulbs and don't use our heating/cooling unless absolutely necessary.
My new years resolution is to use my cloth shopping bags whenever I go shopping and not just at the grocery store, so far so good but I think I need a few more bags. This got me thinking of what else I could do and my art came to mind. I thought about how much I consume by buying brand new canvas and frames and the amount of paint I use with my traditional painting/mixed media pieces. So I started to do research about ways of reusing paper waste (our biggest issue with junk mail, newspapers, and food packaging). I found a way I recycle that paper waste into something I can use to create my art. I then paint it (here is my 5% of new material although I have not bought any "new" paint in awhile, I'm still using the paint I have) and flush mount it on reclaimed or left over wood. I see endless possibility with this technique and the specs I've set for my particular art make it very attainable to the everyday consumer with a price point under $70. That was my marketing self speaking again.
I think I've said enough for the day. Now I need to "do". Till we meet again computer scribe.
